Introducing the Rainbow Newborn Collection
The Rainbow Newborn collection was inspired as a way to honour our 4th child, Mabel Grace. Since her passing at 14 weeks I had been searching for a way to give back in some way, to help other families facing the same horrible reality of losing a baby either through miscarriage or stillbirth.
Ideas taking shape
The idea came to me through my two beautiful daughters. We were reading books in their room and they kept looking at the butterflies on their wall and wanting to kiss and say goodnight to the sweet little butterfly decals on their wall. In that moment I recalled a documentary I watched on Monarch butterflies and their migration during October to Mexico, where they settle for the long winter in hopes of returning to the US and Canada the following Spring. I did a bit of searching on the phenomenon and realized that it was quite fitting.
Long believed to give flight to spirits passed, the Monarch fly by the millions to Mexico, some estimate that more then 200 million Monarchs begin their trek each fall from Canada and the upper Northern United States to points south, primarily Mexico in time for the Day of the dead – November 2nd. The Monarch magically remind all that life and death are cyclical, one forms the other. Just as butterflies are sure to return each year, families, friends and loved ones will meet again in Mexico and beyond.
From there, the Rainbow newborn line was born. I am so thankful to have the amazing design talents of Amanda Schutz who brought my idea to life with her incredible gift.
I reached out to a support group here in town when we found out we were going to lose Mabel and they have been incredibly supportive and gracious. They not only have programs to support loss but also for families going through their Rainbow journey as well. We’ve decided to partner with them on creating a loss care package, as well as supporting some of their initiatives through our donations, which means you can feel good about your purchase as proceeds from every sale of our Rainbow products goes towards the Mabel Grace Project, helping families cope with pregnancy and infant loss through our partnership with HEARTS baby loss support right here in the Edmonton area.
Losing a child of any age is devastating, the stigma and burden should not be carried alone. In some way I hope that this initiative can bring solace and comfort to families going through this and to assist in their grieving process.
